Biodiesel Warning

B30 Biodiesel is now available from about 100 Morrison’s supermarkets and consists of a blend of 70% fossil diesel and 30% biodiesel derived from fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). Normal diesel contains up to 5% biodiesel. It is easily identified at the pumps as it has an orange nozzle.

However, many motor manufacturers have said that this fuel is not approved for use in their engines and using this fuel will invalidate their engine and fuel system warranties. Also, there is a possibility that cold starting and poor performance or economy could be experienced. Problems related to this issue will not be covered by the contract hire company’s maintenance contract.

Manufacturers that have said the fuel must not be used include Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Renault, Seat, Skoda, Toyota, Volvo and Volkswagen.

Drivers should assume that they should not use this fuel unless specifically permitted by the manufacturer.
